I'd heard a rumour a while ago that apple would be integrating a timelapse feature into the new operating system and with a sigh and a yawn I discarded the info as I've never been a fan of timelapse apps, apart from TriggerTrap ;-)
So, does it work? I thought I'd test it out while I was shooting some shots around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park today. Needless to say, it's about as average as I'd expect it to be. Quite simply, there's no functionality - you press start and that's it! A bit of thought into the feature may have been useful (ability to change interval, unless I've missed something) or maybe just to bunch the photos into a folder which you can edit later.
The clouds were moving particularly slow today so you don't really see any movement apart from people whizzing past. I guess it's another design to bring timelapse to the masses and possibly quite fun for first time timelapsers but unfortunately for me, it's not of any use.
The only time I could see myself using it would be in an absolute emergency - when my main camera dies, my gopro isn't with me and after I've hand-sketched 250 frames with quill and paper - then, then maybe I'd use it.
Pros:
- Great for an introduction to Timelapse
- Simple to use
- Relatively small file sizes when outputted
Cons:
- Can't change interval (as far as I've looked)
- Screen staying on will chew your battery
- Quality is average
- Flickering seems to be an issue, even with AE Lock activated
Let's see how it looks on the new iPhone 6 and I'll let you know. In the meantime, here's a few tests I did...
